We are proud to announce The CHICAGO APPOINTMENTS PROJECT, a program whose purpose is to identify well-qualified openly LGBT candidates for positions in the mayoral administration and to advocate for their appointments.
The CHICAGO APPOINTMENTS PROJECT aims to assemble a talent bank of openly LGBT professionals seeking opportunities to serve in the Mayor's administration both as senior staff and on numerous boards and commissions. Whether you are a recent graduate or a seasoned professional, if you have ever considered public service, now is the time to share your expertise and give our community a voice at the table.
The CHICAGO APPOINTMENTS PROJECT is a collaborative effort between Equality Illinois, the Human Rights Campaign, the Gay & Lesbian Leadership Institute, as well as community leaders, and seeks to recruit and engage qualified members of the LGBT community to serve the city of Chicago and the Mayor. The CHICAGO APPOINTMENTS PROJECT has already established strong working relationships with the Office of the Mayor, and a number of openly LGBT individuals are already working in the administration. We will continue to work with the Office of the Mayor of Chicago as more staff is added.
Get a head start by applying HERE. If you have specific questions, then please reach us at CAP@eqil.org.
The CHICAGO APPOINTMENTS PROJECT is modeled after and builds upon the highly successful Presidential Appointments Project of the Gay & Lesbian Leadership Institute that has led to the appointment of more than 150 LGBT people in the Obama Administration.
We are so grateful to the Honorable Debra Shore, Commissioner of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District; Tressa Feher (former staff member of the Victory Fund); John Barry (Member, Board of Directors, Human Rights Campaign); Jim LoBianco (Executive Director, Streetwise); and Samir Luther (Gay & Lesbian Leadership Institute) for their participation in and development of The CHICAGO APPOINTMENTS PROJECT.
All information submitted to The CHICAGO APPOINTMENTS PROJECT will remain confidential and will only be shared with the Mayor's appointments team. Any applicant under consideration for employment will be contacted directly by the administration and not by The CHICAGO APPOINTMENTS PROJECT. The Project has no authority or official role with respect to hiring any personnel in the Mayor's administration. Participation in this program does not mean that the Project will recommend anyone for any position or that applicants will in any way be advantaged in the appointment or nomination process for any such position.
